Mending

A Cesarean Postpartum Group

Are you a parent recovering from a cesarean birth? Are you seeking a supportive community to share and process your journey, questions, and experiences? We’re here for you!

Mending is a virtual support group facilitated by three experienced doulas and mothers from the East River Doula Collective. Together, we've assisted countless individuals through the beautiful and transformative phases of birth and postpartum, always with openness, humor, and zero judgments

What Mending is All About

Our Vision

At "Mending," our vision is simple yet powerful: to create a safe, nurturing space where cesarean parents can come together to connect, share, listen, and heal. We invite you to bring your questions, challenges, and triumphs to this compassionate circle of support.

What to Expect

This 6-week virtual support group is tailored specifically for those recovering from cesarean births. We meet on Thursdays at 11:00 AM, with each session lasting approximately one hour. While our themes are loosely structured, they serve as a starting point for our conversations. Topics range from postpartum recovery, healing, lactation, and feeding to baby developmental milestones, sleep, body acceptance, finding childcare, navigating new relationships with partners and family, and sharing birth stories. While our primary focus is on parents 0-4 months postpartum, we welcome all parents and aren't strict about this timeframe.

Supporting Each Other and the Greater Community

To ensure our support group remains accessible to everyone, we've set a suggested donation of $120 for all six weeks. A portion of the total proceeds will be donated to MamaBaby Haiti, a non-profit dedicated to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality rates in Haiti. We will provide receipts to participants for transparency.

Testimonial

“Mending was a vital part of my postpartum journey. After an unwanted and traumatic Cesarean birth of two healthy twins, I was raw and mourning the vaginal birth I had desired and worked for, blaming myself for “failing” to achieve, while also experiencing a great deal of anger at my medical providers and the hospital system.” Jaye, Adriane and Sophia created a space to not only process my birth experience but learn and heal from the other stories of the women in the group. Having a designated time and space to process and talk about my birth and spend time in community with other new moms and our fearless facilitators was truly healing. Mending enabled me to move through my PTSD symptoms and focus on loving and caring for my now 10 week-old little girls. I feel strong and capable as a mom, much to the credit of my participation in the Mending group. I feel healed and no longer alienated from my body and scar. A joyful and healing experience. Thank you <3”
